Time Machine. But a ton more useful
Back-In-Time 5 is a tool for navigating and accessing your Time Machine backups. It massively improves the experience of viewing and retrieving files and makes it possible to see and access data from multiple machines and disks at once.

No doubt you've been in the situation where you accidentally delete a file you needed, or even worse, your drive gets fried. Learning from this experience you moved over to Apple's built-in backup system, Time Machine and everything was going great. That was until you needed to retrieve an old file or a particular version of a file. Even worse, you've got a few different machines and as many different Time Machine backups...

Back-In-Time makes it all quick and simple – no more trawling through space (and, oh my, that timeline) to find what you're looking for. Quickly see all your files across multiple disks, clearly see exactly how many versions there are of each file and preview them to check if they're the version you're looking for and even compare files right in the app.

You'll no longer get that sinking feeling when you realise you've lost a file.

Requirements: macOS 10.6 or later and a Time Machine backup

Makes working with multiple monitors just work
If you work with multiple monitors, then you need ScreenFocus. It helps you focus on your work by automatically dimming the unused screens around you. When you need to use another screen, simply move the cursor on to it and ScreenFocus will brighten it up – move the cursor away and it'll dim it back down again.

It sounds simple but you won't believe how effective it is. In fact, you'll immediately wonder why it isn't standard behavior already!

ScreenFocus was a huge hit on ProductHunt, gaining #2 Product of the Day and #4 Product of the Week status with over 1000 upvotes. Feedback includes:

"I realised I needed this so much! Not only it helps me focus, but it's also good for the eyes."

"I have two 27” monitors dangling off my 27” iMac which I am usually very happy with. But what happens when you just want to watch the latest movie trailer on this set-up? If you zoom to full screen on your main screen you still have two brights suns emitting twitter feeds and spreadsheets of each side. This is where ScreenFocus shines. It lets me focus on the videos. It darkens the left and right monitors for videos and dims then when I need to get in "focus" mode for my deep work. A must-have utility if you have an external monitor. Great job Apptorium!"

Requirements: macOS 10.12 or later

FiveNotes
$4.99
Mac App
Quickly access the important stuff right when you need it
FiveNotes is a great way to keep the info you need right where you need it. It's a simple note-taking app that sits in the menu bar. The main difference between it and other tools is that you can only create up to five items in it.

It's this limit that makes it so useful. By limiting what you can create you can really focus on what's necessary and easily find it when you need it (remember using Stickies and spending an hour finding what you were looking for?!)

Here's what people are saying about it:

"I've been using this for a few weeks and finally have discovered where it fits into my daily workflow. When I have an idea that I know I will want to reference at a later time I will jot it in one of my notes. Then as I need it later I cut it out of the note and I free up one of the five again for later. The best feature of these notes is that the menu item will stay active even when I click out of it so I can use it as a reference and continually add new thoughts to it. Great for notetaking while reading an article, or creating a temporary to-do list whilst going through email. It has more than a few uses and will stay in my menu bar for a while."

"I have tried many Notes app, so far, the one that suits my needs is FiveNotes. It is elegant, minimalist, and accepts markdown. There is no need to open an app or a new window to write a note. With FiveNote minimalist window, I can quickly add my thoughts and share if necessary"
